The Myriad Project

The Frank J. Natale Concert Series honors the memory of talented violinist Frank J. Natale by bringing a range of musical performances to Quinnipiac.

This year, the annual concert series is holding three performances throughout the academic year showcasing The Myriad Project, pianist Emiko Edwards and Tony Award-winning actress Ali Stroker.

The first of these performances, The Myriad Project’s “Fable and Fantasy”, is on Saturday, October 24 at 2 p.m. in the SITE-201 Auditorium. The director of the concert series and assistant teaching professor of music, Lauren Reed, describes the upcoming performance as “an imaginative, eclectic program on electric violin and loop pedal, with bassoon and oboe, creating a unique soundscape for storytelling through music. They are an extraordinary group of artists blending genres and expanding the creative possibilities of their instruments.”

"Fable and Fantasy" will explore themes of storytelling, discovery and adventure. This program will also pull in classic video game music, including original pieces stemming from Nintendo soundtracks.

“Classical music fans will enjoy the ensemble’s transcriptions of classical reed trios, while contemporary music enthusiasts will hear several newly commissioned works that showcase virtuosic playing and experiment with soundscapes and extended techniques,” Reed said.

The second performance will take place on February 27 at 2 p.m. in the SITE Auditorium, featuring pianist Emiko Edwards, who will present “RODEO”, a program showcasing the music of American composer Aaron Copland. "RODEO" is Edwards' debut album, inspired by moving to a historic rodeo town and will be presented live at this recital.

The series finale will be on Thursday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the SITE Auditorium. Ali Stroker, a singer, author and Tony Award-winning actress, will be performing.

“It will be an intimate program including theater favorites and personal life anecdotes, accompanied by the piano,” Reed said.

Stroker is best known for her role in “Oklahoma!” and is also a passionate advocate for inclusion and accessibility in fine arts, as she was the first actor in a wheelchair to perform on Broadway.

Reed encourages students to stay after the concerts for post-concert receptions for the opportunity to meet the artist.

“I would recommend that students bring their friends and experience the world-class talent of these extraordinary musicians right on campus.” Reed said, “I feel that, for me, college was a time of personal discovery. Some of my most vivid and meaningful memories from college were the concerts that I attended. What better way to discover more about yourself and the world than to seek out a new, enriching musical and artistic experience?”

Doors will open one hour before the concert starts. Tickets are $5 for students and available on the Quinnipiac website. Tickets will also be available at the door for cash only.
