Starting Off Strong On Day One
Independence
New students have increased responsibilities after leaving home. Consider how you will manage daily tasks and assignments without supervision — find a system to stay organized.
You might experience financial autonomy for the first time. Be sure to track expenses and create a budget.
Self-Advocacy
Contact instructors ASAP for any requests or concerns (i.e. absences, extensions).
Identify Campus Resources
Set healthy boundaries (with friends, study schedules, etc.).
Goal Setting
Set two to three SMART goals for the semester.
Consider what you need to reach those goals and what obstacles might impede progress.
Self-Care
Plan to fit self-care into your schedule to reduce burn-out.
Consider how to reduce stress (i.e. take a walk, color, take a break).
The Learning Commons at the Arnold Bernhard Library is another valuable resource for you. Here, we help our students achieve success in the classroom and beyond. Orientation is designed to assist new students with finding their way around Quinnipiac, register for classes, learn more about procedures and expectations — and start meeting fellow Bobcats.
Registration for Orientation is available in Q-Start, the new-student onboarding portal.
Orientation will take place on Thursday, August 20, for new first-year students and transfer students who did not attend Orientation in June.
Move in: Students participating in August Orientation will move in Wednesday, August 19.
Common Hour is a dedicated time on the Mount Carmel Campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
This allows students and faculty to participate in campus-wide events and programming. Common Hour is specifically designed to allow for scheduling community engagement and interaction.
The entire community at Quinnipiac is encouraged to participate in Common Hour programs.
Several of our deans, administrators, faculty, staff, alumni and students offer advice on how to make the most of your Quinnipiac experience.
Fraternities and sororities foster academic achievement, student involvement, community service and lifelong friendships. Joining a fraternity or sorority provides experiences that help prepare you not only for a career, but for life. Learn more.
The next few weeks will be busy and a little bit stressful — but that is where Q-Start comes in. It is carefully designed with you in mind. It takes the uncertainty away from the on-boarding process and will let you know what you will need to complete and when.
Email qstart@qu.edu with any questions.
There are a lot of exciting opportunities headed your way this summer — most of which will come through your Quinnipiac email. Be sure to set it up and check it often. We also recommend adding it to your phone.
