Bobcat Challenge raises record-breaking $1.5 million to support student-athletes, spirit groups

The unstoppable spirit of Quinnipiac’s Bobcat Challenge raised a record-breaking $1,515,148 in just two days, shattering the marathon’s ambitious $1.25 million goal. This marks the third consecutive year Bobcat Challenge has exceeded the goal of raising over $1 million to support Quinnipiac Athletics.

This year’s total of 2,567 donor gifts marks the highest donor participation in Bobcat Challenge history and the fourth consecutive year of generating more than 2,000 donor gifts.

From October 21 to October 22, Bobcat Challenge ignited the spirit across Quinnipiac’s Division I teams and spirit groups. Throughout the 48 hours, more than 20 teams rallied to drive in support, with many exceeding fundraising goals by astounding margins.

Nicole Caputo, senior director of annual giving, said the opportunity for supporters to connect with student-athletes and coaches makes Bobcat Challenge so unique.

“When supporters hear directly from the student-athletes whose experiences they are helping to shape, the impact becomes personal. These authentic connections create a sense of shared investment in Quinnipiac Athletics and motivate donors at every level to participate,” Caputo said.

Quinnipiac Director of Athletics Greg Amodio said the success of Bobcat Challenge is a powerful tribute to all who support Quinnipiac Athletics and to the tireless efforts of the Quinnipiac coaches and student-athletes. The 2026 campaign is the fourth consecutive year with 100% student-athlete involvement.

“The success of Bobcat Challenge is a testament to our alumni, our fans and our parents who are fully committed to provide our coaches and student athletes with the resources they need to compete for and win championships,” Amodio said. “It’s a great effort by our coaches and student-athletes who put in the work to make connections with our fans, to produce engaging videos, to send emails out — all of those different kinds of things. It’s all that behind-the-scenes work, in conjunction with our partners in Advancement, that makes the Bobcat Challenge so successful year after year.”

This year’s Bobcat Challenge also generated the strongest early giving momentum in the campaign’s history, Caputo said.

“From the moment we shared our save-the-date message a month before the event, supporters were eager to show their commitment to our student-athletes and teams. We have also been overwhelmed by the incredible level of engagement and generosity throughout the campaign. Not only did we meet and exceed our fundraising goal, but we also achieved record-breaking participation, demonstrating the extraordinary passion and dedication of the Quinnipiac Athletics community,” said Caputo.

During this year’s Bobcat Challenge, donors successfully met more than 30 challenges and matches offered by alumni, coaches, families and anonymous contributors, unlocking individual matches ranging from $500 up to $7,500. Additionally, 53 Quinnipiac Athletics donors stepped up in a big way to contribute an incredible $559,973 to the Athletic Director’s Fund, exceeding the goal by 111%.

Beyond raising critical funds, Bobcat Challenge empowers student-athletes to take the lead, collaborating on strategy, launching outreach efforts and securing resources that will fuel their programs today and for years to come. This builds on Quinnipiac Athletics strong framework for student-athlete engagement, said Drew McClure, assistant director of athletic development.

“While Bobcat Challenge is the most visible part of the effort, student-athlete engagement is a year-round process through our Student-Athlete Alumni Mentorship Program,” McClure said. “Bobcat Challenge provides a valuable opportunity for our student-athletes to connect with alumni, supporters, families and fans while developing leadership and communication skills. It also helps them understand the importance of philanthropy, staying engaged after graduation and contributing to something larger than their own team. That sense of shared responsibility strengthens the entire Quinnipiac Athletics community.”

After two high-powered days of matches, challenges and non-stop community support, three Division I teams led the charge in total student-athlete program funds raised during Bobcat Challenge 2026:

  • Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey, powering past its goal by 162% to raise $81,425

  • Bobcat’s men’s lacrosse, taking it to the cage and raising $79,079

  • Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey, filling the net with $42,022 raised

On the Bobcat Challenge leaderboard for total number of campaign donors, Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling came out on top with 365 donors raising $33,300; followed by men’s lacrosse pulling in 245 donors and women’s ice hockey bringing in 230 donor gifts.

While this year’s record-breaking Bobcat Challenge sets a new standard, McClure said it’s the continued campaign support received each year which powers the long-term success of Quinnipiac Athletics.

“The support generated during these 48 hours provides opportunities and resources that directly impact our student-athletes and programs every day,” McClure said. “Just as importantly, it reflects the strength of the Bobcat community and our shared commitment to providing an exceptional student-athlete experience. Every gift helps build a stronger philanthropic culture around Quinnipiac Athletics and reinforces the collective commitment to our student-athletes.”
