Camp No Limits aims to increase the functional independence of children living with limb loss or limb differences. Campers and their families will experience a supportive community through adaptive recreational activities, sports, educational sessions and life skills programs designed to build confidence and independence.
The events will be led by Camp No Limits’ physical and occupational therapists, prosthetists and Quinnipiac occupational therapy and physical therapy students and faculty, along with teen and adult mentors with limb loss or limb differences.
New this year, Camp No Limits will kick off with a Teen Day on Thursday, July 9, for four campers ages 13–17. Campers will participate in a driving simulator, virtual reality experiences and stress management activities and attend a nutrition class in the Recreation and Wellness Center's demonstration kitchen.
Camp continues Friday, July 10, when children with limb loss or limb differences and their families join together for three days of adaptive recreation, educational sessions and community-building activities. The day will start with "energizer" activities followed by life skills programs. Later that afternoon, a field day featuring relay and team games will take place followed by a biking and running clinic.
On Saturday, July 11, activities will include wheelchair basketball, adaptive soccer and arts and crafts.
"Every year, Camp No Limits reminds us how powerful it is for children with limb loss or limb differences to come together in a supportive community where they can challenge themselves, build new skills and make lasting friendships," said Valerie Strange, clinical professor of occupational therapy and one of the camp's organizers. "Our occupational and physical therapy faculty, students and volunteers are proud to help create an environment where campers gain confidence, discover new possibilities and leave knowing they have a network of peers and mentors cheering them on."
Quinnipiac became the first and only institution of higher education in the country to host Camp No Limits in 2015. Since then, the university has continued its partnership with the nonprofit organization to provide a unique learning experience for campers, their families and Quinnipiac students preparing for careers in healthcare.
