Parents and Families Update: August 2026

Welcome Home

August 14, 2026

Student and family standing outside The Grove residence hall on move-in day

We are so excited to welcome you and your student to our Bobcat family, whether your student is new to the university or returning for another semester. There are a variety of campus events and celebrations to mark the start of a successful academic year.

Resources

Welcome to Quinnipiac! Whether your student is joining us for the first time or returning for another year, we are thrilled to have them as part of our community. For some, this will be their final year, and we are excited to support them as they reach this milestone.

As I mentioned to incoming parents, we are here to assist your students and encourage them to get involved in clubs and organizations, attend athletic events and provide service to our community in Hamden and North Haven. We are entering into our second year of Common Hour this fall, which is a campus-wide shared engagement created to enrich our academic environment and strengthen connections across campus. Held every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., the time is designed to foster community engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration and meaningful student support.

We see this time especially helpful for our commuter students, providing a common time all students will be free to engage in events. Students who engage in activities often find a sense of belonging and success in college. This year’s engagement fair is scheduled for Thursday, September 3 from noon to 2 p.m. on the Quad; please encourage your student to attend.

We offer numerous student employment opportunities on campus, including positions with the university or our food partner, Chartwells, which employed more than 150 students last year. Additionally, our healthcare partner, Hartford HealthCare, provides part-time positions at their hospitals, clinics and other operations. If your student is eligible for federal work-study, please check out the numerous job openings available. Need to check if you are eligible? Please contact financial aid at finaid@qu.edu. Our career services office is also here to assist in this process.

New this year is The Hartford HealthCare Jumpstart Program Partnership, where students are invited to join the pilot program based on academic performance and co-curricular engagement. This program is intended to enhance our students’ academic journey and apply classroom lessons to real-world behavioral health services, gain visibility into paid opportunities and start building a professional network with Hartford HealthCare.

We are entering our second year of Listening Labs, an initiative designed to support students through guided spaces that foster the skills of authentic listening and meaningful sharing. Listening Labs are judgment-free, advice-free and welcoming environments where students can feel heard, build connections and engage in open and honest dialogue with one another. This faculty-led initiative will also include six student Listening Lab Coordinators this year, helping to expand peer engagement and leadership opportunities. We hope to see the program continue to grow and positively impact more students each year.

We continue to embrace the “co-creation” model at our institution. Shake Smart in the RecWell facility and The Waking Giant Café in the School of Business are also operated by students for students and part of our dining plan. We are going into our fourth year of “menu makers” at Café Q. These students select daily menu options and track the popularity of entrée options, ensuring variety and satisfaction increase over time. If your student has any questions or suggestions, please have them email menumakers@qu.edu. We are excited to announce the building of a new dining option, an all-you-care-to-eat dining facility, housed in the former bookstore. Construction is underway for an opening in Fall 2027. Details will be announced in detail in Spring of 2027.

The CXO’s advisory board for new first-time students will begin Sunday, August 30. If interested, please contact Eve Behrens at eve.behrens@qu.edu. She serves as the student leader of the group. They meet every Sunday at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m., each week rotates. Dinner served at the 6 p.m. meeting. A great way to get connected to others.

We will continue to offer our Parent Academy sessions this fall. These Zoom sessions focus on specific areas of the student experience. The first one is scheduled for the second week of September; check your email later this month for the invitation.

Finally, communication is key to building a trusting relationship with parents and family members. If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to email us at QUParents@qu.edu. Your feedback is important to us. Thank you for being such great partners in supporting your student’s success at Quinnipiac.

We look forward to welcoming your students to campus soon.

Tom Ellett
Chief Experience Officer (cxo@qu.edu)

Student Experience and Engagement

The Student Programming Board will kick off Welcome Week with daily events starting Monday, August 24. Festivities continue Tuesday, August 25, with the university's annual Student Media Summit at 9:30 p.m. in the Carl Hansen Student Center, where students can meet campus media groups and learn how to get involved.

The fall semester's engagement opportunities continue Thursday, September 3, with the annual Engagement Fair, held from noon to 2 p.m. on the Mount Carmel Quad. More than 200 tables representing student organizations, departments and offices will showcase co-curricular opportunities for students to explore. In addition, the Office of Student Engagement will host events for first-year students during common hours throughout the first six weeks of the semester. Families can follow @qu_ose on Instagram for updates, and events will also be highlighted on the university calendar

Fraternity and Sorority Life

Welcome Class of 2030 parents and families! And of course, welcome back to the rest of the Bobcat parents and families! The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) is a vibrant piece of campus life where 21% of students chose to become members. Membership offers community, avenues for service and philanthropy, lifelong friends and fun! The all-FSL GPA is consistently higher than the all-undergraduate GPA and, our members performed 14,573 hours of hands-on service this past year. They also raised an impressive $224,793 for philanthropic causes locally and across the country during the last academic year.

If your Bobcat wants to find their home away from home, establish a community of peers with similar values, participate in service/philanthropy events and have fun, feel free to direct them our way for information about joining. Fall recruitment registration is now live. All questions can be directed to fslife@qu.edu or asked via Instagram @qufsl

Panhellenic Primary Recruitment (hosted over Labor Day weekend)

Fraternity Recruitment (hosted in September)

All students are encouraged to attend the Fraternity & Sorority Life Kickoff, hosted on Echlin/Tator Lawn, on August 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. This event offers opportunities to meet the fraternities and sororities at Quinnipiac, enjoy free ice cream and music and connect with FSL leaders and staff members. Our organizations will be tabling throughout the duration of this event and can answer any questions about their respective recruitment or intake processes — no registration required.

We have a new fraternity joining the Quinnipiac FSL community this semester, Sigma Chi. Men interested in this new organization can meet them at our upcoming kickoff event or connect with them on Instagram @sigmachiqu.

We also have a new sorority joining the Quinnipiac FSL community this semester, Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc., a multicultural sorority. Women interested in this new organization can meet them at our upcoming kickoff event or connect with them on Instagram @quinnipiac_msu

Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering $3,000 in scholarships to any students who qualify and apply. You can learn more by following them on Instagram @qu.sigep. The link to apply can be found here

We look forward to welcoming your students so soon!

Housing and Residential Life

Welcome home, Bobcats! The countdown is on! Very soon, our residence halls will once again be filled with the energy, excitement and spirit that make Quinnipiac such a special place. We are thrilled to welcome both our newest Bobcats and our returning students back to campus for the start of another academic year.

Live here. Belong here. Thrive here.

We are committed to helping every student feel connected, supported and at home at Quinnipiac. Our residence halls are more than just a place to sleep and study. They are communities where students build friendships, discover new opportunities and develop a sense of belonging. Whether your student is arriving for their first semester or returning for another year on campus, we are excited to welcome them home.

To help ensure a smooth move-in experience, all residential students are required to sign up for a move-in time slot. Students can select their preferred arrival time using the move-in time slot link located on their MyHousing home page. We encourage students to log in and reserve their time slot as soon as possible if they have not already done so.

Students received a detailed move-in email last week containing important information about arrival procedures, what to expect on move-in day and other helpful reminders. If your student has not reviewed this information, please encourage them to check their Quinnipiac email account, as all move-in communications are sent directly to their university email.

Move-in can bring a mix of emotions for students and families alike. Excitement, anticipation and even a few nerves are all part of the experience. As students settle into their new spaces, we encourage them to get involved, meet new people and take advantage of the many opportunities available during the first few weeks of the semester. These early connections often become the foundation for a successful and memorable year.

We look forward to welcoming our newest Bobcats to the Quinnipiac family and greeting our returning students as they continue their Quinnipiac journey. Thank you for your partnership and support as we prepare for another fantastic year. We can't wait to welcome your student home.

Dining Updates

Quinnipiac Dining is excited to welcome students back for another academic year and looks forward to serving the campus community throughout the semester.

Understanding Meal Plans

With 32 dining locations across three campuses, students have access to a wide variety of fresh and convenient dining options. Quinnipiac meal plans operate on a declining balance system, and all dining halls are a la carte, allowing students to purchase exactly what they would like. There is no entry fee to access the dining halls, giving students the flexibility to dine whenever it best fits their schedule. Current dining hours and location information are available on the Dine on Campus Website.

All full-time students are required to have a meal plan.

Learn more about dining on campus and view instructions on how to change a meal plan on the dining pages of our website.  For new students, we highly recommend watching the “Personalizing your dining experience” video to understand how declining balance meal plans work and for sample meals and prices. Step-by-step instructions for how to change your meal plan can be found under the Dining FAQ: "Can I change or update my dining plan?"  All meal plan changes must be made by the last day of the add/drop registration period which is Friday, August 28 for undergraduate and graduate students.

Please be advised that QCash is no longer accepted on campus. Students who run out of meal points or part-time students who do not have a meal plan can use debit cards, credit cards, Samsung Pay, Apple Pay or Google Pay at the registers in the dining halls.

Dining on the Go, Transact

Students are encouraged to download the Transact Mobile Ordering app before classes begin. The app provides convenient access to select dining locations, allowing orders to be placed ahead of time for a quick meal or snack between classes.

Dining Beyond the Plate

Quinnipiac Dining is introducing Milestones, a new initiative focused on creating memorable dining experiences that bring students together through food. Throughout the semester, students can enjoy signature events across all three campuses, including Love, Quinnipiac Dining, DIY (Do It Yourself) activities and teaching kitchens, where they can learn new culinary skills from Quinnipiac Dining chefs.

To stay up to date on upcoming events, limited-time offers and promotions, follow @qudining on Instagram.

Dining with Allergies on Campus

Students who have medically necessary dietary needs such as allergies and gluten-free diets should begin by contacting the Office of Student Accessibility (OSA) at access@qu.edu or calling 203-582-7200. This should be done as soon as a student identifies that they have a medical need. Incoming students should do this as soon as they deposit at Quinnipiac, as there are historically a large number of requests at the start of term.

The following plan helps students with food allergies and dietary restrictions navigate dining on campus and advocate for themselves.

The student must submit supporting medical documentation using an accommodation request with the Office of Student Accessibility. Once that is completed, the office will connect you with a member of the dining team, who will walk you through your options at our dining locations.

For more information, visit Dietary Restrictions Accommodations and Allergy Guide

Working with Quinnipiac Dining

Quinnipiac Dining is currently hiring student employees for On the Rocks Pub & Grill. Flexible schedules and on-campus employment make it a great opportunity for students looking to work during the semester. Learn more and consider applying

Stay Connected

Throughout the semester, students can stay informed by subscribing to the Quinnipiac Dining monthly newsletter, featuring upcoming events, limited time offers, promotions and dining updates.

Move-In Week

During move-in week on August 19 and August 20, Quinnipiac Dining will provide complimentary sandwiches at the lunch tent for students and their families. Pepsi also will be on campus, offering students the opportunity to preorder beverages and stock their fridges before the semester begins.

On August 20 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Pepsi will also be raffling off a mini fridge and New England Patriots Tickets. Stop by for a chance to win!

Contact Quinnipiac Dining at QuinnipiacDining@qu.edu with any questions.

Spiritual and Religious Life

The chaplaincy team is excited to welcome new and returning students in the fall.

Catholic Life: Sisters Bernadette and Marie Emmanuel are planning a full set of offerings, including weekly 4 p.m. Sunday Mass starting August 23.

Protestant Christian Life: Led by Kim Espinal, many weekly Bible studies and monthly on-campus worship await.

Jewish Life: Our new Coordinator of Jewish Life, Keren Ayalon, is planning weekly Shabbats at 5 p.m. on Friday as well as other activities at the Peter C. Hereld House.

Muslim Life: We have hired a Muslim Chaplain, Saad Toor, who will start later this month. He will be on campus on Friday afternoons and will meet with students to determine if and when Friday prayers should be offered in the new, larger Prayer Room on the first floor of the Carl Hansen Student Center (SC-116).

Interfaith activities: Student leaders from the religious groups on campus will meet with Director of Spiritual and Religious Life, Catherine Gillespie, to determine which interfaith activities to plan this year. These may include an interfaith panel presentation and discussion, an interfaith community service program and even times of fasting from social media.

Financial Aid

There are some changes in the new academic year with regards to the One Big Beautiful Bill as it relates to undergraduate students filing a FAFSA for financial aid consideration.

Incoming Full-Time Students and Transfer Students New to Quinnipiac

Incoming full-time Fall 2026 students & transfer students filing FAFSA will not see any changes to the annual federal student loan offer.

The Parent PLUS Loan remains a viable option for parents of new freshmen students wanting to pay toward their semester invoices.  The borrowing eligibility is capped at $20,000 per student, per academic year.  There is an overall aggregate lifetime limit of $65,000 per student for their undergraduate career.

Parents of dependent transfer students can submit a Parent PLUS Loan application up to $20,000 for the academic year. Previous PLUS Loan borrowing is taken into consideration when determining eligibility. Students transferring to Quinnipiac this year are subject to the $65,000 lifetime limit and may no longer be eligible for the loan based on PLUS Loan borrowing at their previous university. The Financial Aid Office will review each application and notify parents of alternative payment options if this is the case.

Returning Full-Time Students

Undergraduate full-time returning students filing FAFSA will not see any changes to their annual federal student loan offer. Students who previously borrowed a federal student loan (or parents who borrowed a PLUS Loan for this same student) disbursing prior to June 30, 2026 may qualify for the legacy provision enabling eligible parents to borrow the Parent PLUS Loan without regard to the new capped amount and continue borrowing up to the university determined cost of attendance. The legacy provision may be valid for up to three additional consecutive years, or time to credential, whichever occurs sooner.

Part-Time Attendance

All students attending the university on a less than full-time basis will be subject to a Schedule of Reduction of their federal student loan offer.  Beginning with the 2026 – 2027 FAFSA, federal student loan amounts will be prorated based on credit enrollment for those attending less than full time.

Please refer to Studentaid.gov for the most up to date detailed information related to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Additional Payment Options

The university offers an interest-free payment plan to assist families with paying the remaining owing balance on semester invoices (refer to qu.edu/onestop).  This option may be used for the full balance owed, or in conjunction with borrowing a Parent PLUS or private educational loan.

Private educational lenders offer many loan options to students and families for financing education. Private lenders will allow borrowing up to the university determined cost of attendance. Please refer to the online tool, comparing lender products in an unbiased manner, ELMSelect.com. The website provides detailed information and links to lender products historically used by Quinnipiac students. Undergraduate students will be required to have a credit-worthy co-signer to secure the loan.

Refer to qu.edu/finaid for additional information.

Contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@qu.edu with any questions.

One Stop

The One Stop office is eagerly anticipating the return of our students this fall. We have several important reminders for all students and their proxies.

Paying for College: Set Up Your Financing Plan ASAP

All students registered for the fall term should see their charges in Self-Service. If you have not already, please ensure that your balance is covered. The Resolve a Balance Due page of our website can assist with this task.

Please ensure that all past due balances are covered prior to move-in. This will allow for a smooth transition on move-in day.

Questions about your bill? Contact One Stop.

Undergraduate full-time students who have less than 12 credits should ensure they are fully registered or submit the Change of Status Form to switch from a full-time to part-time student.  We highly recommend that you contact Financial Aid to understand the implications of this change prior to making the request.

Undergraduate part-time students who have full-time courseloads will have their status switched to full-time after the end of the add/drop registration period. This may result in a change to your invoice.

We encourage all students to check their accounts in Self-Service once a month.

If any students are due refunds, these will be processed after the add/drop registration period.

One Stop Hours of Operation

Visit the One Stop page for hours.

Contact Us

Email is the best way to reach us. Please allow one to three business days for a response, and we look forward to assisting you. Email us at onestop@qu.edu

We receive a large volume of correspondence and it may take us one to three days to respond to your request. Email (onestop@qu.edu) remains the most efficient way to reach our office.  We kindly ask you not to send multiple messages or leave multiple voicemails within a couple of days. Our correspondence gets distributed among the team and multiple correspondence often ends in multiple members of our team doing the same research and responding multiple times and thus makes our queues longer. In the unlikely event that your original correspondence is not replied to within four business days, we apologize and encourage you to please contact us again.

Registrar

Course Registration

Registration is open through the end of the add/drop period (August 28) to make any necessary schedule changes. If you wish to make a schedule change, you can do so in your Self-Service account. If you need any assistance, please email registrar@qu.edu.

If you are trying to get into a closed course, you may contact the school or college at Quinnipiac that is offering the course

Learn more about course registration.

Proxy Access

Students may authorize a proxy to have access to Self-Service to view a student’s midterm and final grades. In addition, authorizing a proxy also allows the appropriate Quinnipiac faculty and staff to discuss relevant matters with the proxy. The student may authorize a proxy to all or a subset of the following:

  • Student finance information

  • Financial aid information

  • Academics (midterm and final grades)

  • Tax information

  • Grade information

  • Notifications (receive email notifications on the above)

Advanced Placement (AP) Scores

Advanced Placement scores have recently been received by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. As our admissions team processes these credits, you will be able to view your scores in your Self-Service account. You will also see your transfer credits applied in your Stellic account.

If you are receiving AP credit (or any other transfer credit) for a class that you have already registered for in the Fall term, you will be contacted by your respective college or school at Quinnipiac to advise you of any necessary schedule changes.

Important Dates to Know

For important dates, please see our academic calendar.

Parking and Transportation

If you plan to bring a vehicle to any of our campuses (Mount Carmel, North Haven or York Hill), please note the following important information:

All drivers are required to review the Quinnipiac University Parking Rules and Regulations prior to parking on campus.

The MyParking application should be used for permit registration. Access to obtain a permit is open at this time for medical, law and graduate students. An email will be sent to undergraduate students when the portal is open for their permits.

Permits will not be issued to students with unpaid parking tickets. We strongly encourage you to log in to MyParking to review and pay any outstanding fines.

Residential first-year students are not permitted to have or operate vehicles on campus at any time.

Per the Quinnipiac University Rules and Regulations, each permit allows parking in certain designated lots. Please find the list of available lots on the stub of the printed decal. Our website will be updated to reflect current lots each permit type has access to in the near future.

Decals are printed on a rolling basis.

  • Undergraduate residential and commuter students will pick up their permits from One Stop Office. Visit the One Stop page for hours. We will have coverage over Welcome Weekend on both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    • When decals are printed and ready for pick up, emails will be sent to the student’s Quinnipiac email account with instructions for pick-up.

    • A valid Quinnipiac ID must be presented by the student to pick up the decal.

  • Graduate students will have their decal mailed to the address on file in MyParking

Due to high email and call volume at this time of year, please allow ample time for a response.

Any questions, please reach out to One Stop Auxiliary Services at parking@qu.edu. Learn more on the parking page of our website.

Student Conduct

On behalf of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, welcome all new and returning students and their families! As we begin another exciting academic year, we want to thank you for partnering with us to support your student's growth, success and wellbeing.

A Helpful Reminder: Review the Student Handbook

The Quinnipiac Student Handbook is an important resource for students and families, providing information about university policies, campus resources, student rights and responsibilities and the Student Code of Conduct

Before Move-In: Review Residential Life Policies

As you prepare for move-in, please take time to review Residential Life Policies with your student. These guidelines explain what students may bring to campus, what items are prohibited and how we work together to maintain a safe and respectful community.

A few important reminders include reviewing policies related to:

  • Fire safety

  • Candles and open flames

  • Cooking appliances

  • Guests and visitation

  • Smoking and tobacco use

  • Room decorations and modifications

Partnering for Success

College is a time for students to grow, learn and gain independence. By understanding university expectations and becoming familiar with available resources, students will be well positioned for a successful year.

If you have questions about the Student Code of Conduct or university expectations, please contact the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards at studentaffairs@quinnipiac.edu

Thank you for being an important part of the Bobcat community. We look forward to another wonderful year!

Community, Assessment, Response and Evaluation (CARE) Team

As a new academic year begins, the Quinnipiac CARE Team would like to welcome both new and returning Bobcats and their families! The start of the semester is an exciting time filled with new opportunities, friendships and experiences, but it is also a period of transition and adjustment. Whether students are navigating their first few weeks away from home, adapting to a new schedule, finding a balance to academics and extracurriculars or cultivating new connections with those around them, it is important to remember that moments of stress and uncertainty are a normal part of the college experience.

Transitions often come with a mix of emotions, for both students and their loved ones. Students may experience homesickness, new academic pressure, relationship changes or difficulty finding a new routine that works for them, in addition to other, unpredictable situational stressors. While many of these challenges improve naturally over time while students acclimate, students don't have to navigate them alone and reaching out early can make a meaningful difference. The CARE Team works collaboratively with campus partners to provide individualized support, connect students with resources, discuss success plans and healthy coping strategies and help overcome barriers that may impact their wellbeing and success.

We encourage families to continue having open conversations with their students about how they are doing throughout the semester. Checking in about more than just classes — such as how they are sleeping, eating, managing stress, building connections and taking care of themselves — can help students feel supported while also reinforcing the importance of seeking help when needed. Utilizing campus resources can play a big role in managing one's overall wellness.

We hope to connect to your students not only through our referral process, but also, out in the Quinnipiac community. In addition to being at the Engagement Fair on September 3, the Health and Wellness Fair on September 23, and Fresh Check Day on October 6, the CARE Team will also be hosting several tables as part of the First Six Weeks. These tables will go over helpful skills and resources to help with this transition period, as well as have activities and freebies to help students take a break and de-stress.

At Quinnipiac, supporting students is a shared responsibility. While Faculty and Staff submit many of our referrals, we encourage you to reach out if you have concerns about your student's wellbeing. Underclassmen, particularly first-year students, make up the highest proportion of referrals as they are going through the most change. For more information about the nature and purpose of CARE, how to submit a referral, and our team's contact information, visit qu.edu/CARE. The CARE Team is here to support your students, and you, throughout their time here.

We look forward to welcoming your Bobcats and to helping them start the year strong!
