Celebrate America 250 across Connecticut

In Quinnipiac's home state, there are countless ways to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. If you're spending time in Connecticut this summer, consider these ideas as a starting point for exploring the state's rich history and culture.

Fireworks

In New Haven, just a few short miles from our three campuses, fireworks will light up the sky over East Rock Park on the evening of July 4 in celebration of America's 250th anniversary. Communities across Connecticut will also host fireworks displays throughout the holiday weekend.

In addition to Sleeping Giant State Park, located just across the street from our Mount Carmel Campus, Connecticut offers numerous trails that provide a unique perspective on the state's role in the American Revolution. Highlights include the Connecticut Revolution Trail, which connects military heritage sites throughout the state; the Connecticut Freedom Trail, which explores important African American history; and the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route, a 680-mile National Historic Trail that follows the path traveled by George Washington and Jean-Baptiste de Rochambeau's troops on their march to the Siege of Yorktown.

State Parks

Head east of our campuses to Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park in Groton, the site of the largest Revolutionary War battle fought in Connecticut, to learn more about the soldiers who defended the fort. Or travel west to Putnam Memorial State Park in Redding, where visitors can explore the remains of a Continental Army encampment established during the winter of 1778–1779. Walk, bike or drive through the park to experience history that remains visible 250 years later.
